IAN SMITH
Ian Smith is an award-winning comedian.
Ian has performed many critically acclaimed Edinburgh solo shows, as well as appearing in the award-winning “underground comedy hit of the fringe” (Guardian), ‘Waiting for Gaddot’. His 2015 show, ‘Whereabouts’ was nominated for the Amused Moose Comedy Award and received rave reviews (★★★★★ The Mirror ★★★★★ Three Weeks).
Ian is also one third of iTunes top-10-charting podcast, The Magic Sponge, alongside Rob Beckett and Jimmy Bullard.
“Fantastically funny.” The Times
“Proper star quality.” The Guardian
“You’d do well to catch him now before his inevitable jump to the big time.” The Telegraph
NEIL O'ROURKE
A regular finalist in a variety of new act competitions, Neil has a smart incisive wit, married to natural Irish charm that's making him one of the most enticing new prospects on the circuit. Don't be fooled by his sweet, schoolboyish exterior - there is a powerful comic mind at work behind those eyes!
"Witty observations... appealing, anecdotal style." Chortle
"Whimsical... Evokes the spirit of David O'Doherty." Beyond the Joke
ELEANOR TIERNAN
Still a relative newcomer to the London comedy scene, Eleanor has the swagger and inventiveness of a veteran. A delightfully bamboozled presence on stage disguises a scalpel-like approach to dissecting the daftness of modern life and makes her a seriously funny proposition on stage. It's no surprise that despite her few years in the capital she's already a regular at the prestigious Comedy Store.
She's also a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, she was featured on Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience on Comedy Central. She has played Glastonbury, Montreal Just For Laughs and all of the Irish comedy festivals. The IFTA-nominated Irish Pictorial Weekly on RTE was co-written and co-performed by Eleanor. Her National Therapy Project was nominated for the First Fortnight Award in the Dublin Fringe Festival this year.
“A distinctive, inspired comic mind.” The Scotsman
“The fastest-rising comedy talent in the country.” Irish Times
“Tiernan boasts a magnificent curl in her lip and snarl in her voice.” Sunday Times
JOE HOBBS
Although very new to the world of stand-up comedy, Joe is already proving himself to be quite the baby-faced assassin, having appeared in the prestigious So You Think You're Funny Final and winning the Amused Moose Breakthrough Award at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe. Since then he's grown even more as a comic (no pun intended, but he is also a mahoosive 6 foot 9, a fact which he wrings all the excellent, original jokes out of.) He's a warm, charming presence, an adept storyteller and has a keen eye for an unexpected punchline. We reckon he could well be a superstar in the next few years. Come watch the story begin right here...
"Joe Hobbs felt like a pro comedian the moment he stepped into the spotlight...he performs with skill and irony... man of the match for me." Chortle
"A natural, easy conversational manner on stage... He ended the show on a high." Beyond the Joke
"Joe Hobbs is a playful, witty newcomer who keeps the audience guessing and the laughs coming." Rhod Gilbert
KATHRYN MATHER
A relative newcomer to the circuit who is already making a big impact with her world-weary, bone dry comedy. She's already won the prestigious Beat the Frog World Series at the Frog and Bucket in Manchester and is sure to go on to bigger and better things.
"Here black humour certainly hit a chord with the room." Chortle
AND YOUR RESIDENT HOST:
BEN VAN DER VELDE
Standing a statuesque five foot five inches high (not in heels) and weighing in at eleven stone (on a good day) Ben is the current light-middleweight contender for compering champion of North London.
"Sharp and crafty gagsmith, a life-giving compere." Chortle
"Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue." Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“The perfect comedy club host – he is a master of audience interaction. The audience weren’t just warmed up, but pretty hysterical even before the first act of the night hit the stage.” Huffington Post
