John-Luke Roberts is a comedian, actor and writer.
He has written for Have I Got News For You, Newzoids and Nevermind the Buzzcocks, and received the BBC Radio Comedy Writers Bursary in 2009.
John-Luke trained under Philippe Gaulier. He has created 6 solo shows for the Edinburgh Fringe between 2010 and 2018 which have all been critically acclaimed with Soho Theatre transfers. In our opinion there are at least three of these which absolutely should have been nominated for the main award, but it seems JLR is turning into a bit of a pre-Revenant Dicaprio when it comes to awards…
He is the co-founder of hugely successful Alternative Comedy Memorial Society, which he hosts with co-co-founder (also a co-founder) and nemesis Thom Tuck. The ACMS aims to celebrate Noble Failure, and give a home to the strange and different in live comedy. With this night as his comedic and intellectual headquarter, John-Luke has proven himself to be one of the most unique, versatile and joyously absurd acts of the past decade. Whether you love bizarre one-liners, oddball audience interaction or high-brow musings, you’ll love this one-of-a-kind act.
“Killer gags and glorious idiocy.” The Guardian
“Mind-warping. Brilliantly follows through on his own absurd logic…relentlessly funny.” List
“Alternative comedy close to its pinnacle.” Chortle
Jenny moved from the Welsh mountains to the Big Smoke in 2010 and has since embarked upon a career in stand-up comedy.
She has written for BBC Radio 4's The News Quiz, Huffington Post and Glamour Magazine and has traveled (parts of) the world with her comedy. She has performed in Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland and Australia where she won the Percy Award for most tickets sold in 'The Imaginarium', (over 1900 tickets) during the Adelaide Fringe.
In August 2016 she performed her debut hour at the Edinburgh Fringe, 'Jen-Hur' which received reviews such as "An Excellent comedic work" Edfest Mag and "A brilliant show and well worth a watch." Arts Award Voice. In August 2017 she performed 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Jen' at the Edinburgh Fringe which was described as "joyously liberating" by The List. She was then invited to perform the show in Barcelona and Sitges where she performed to lovely sold out rooms and learnt a bit of Spanish.
Most recently she support Jason Manford on his 2018 tour and is surely set for even bigger and better things in the very near future.
“Very likeable…Clearly a rising star.” Evening Standard
“One to watch.” Edinburgh Evening News
Matt is a doctor - this has made his parents very proud. He’s also a stand up comedian, this has made his parents very confused. They have relaxed a bit, now he performs in clubs they have actually heard of – including the Comedy Store, Backyard and Covent Garden.
He sometimes meets them half way, and performs science comedy as part of the Science Showoff Talent Factory, in venues including the Science Museum.
Back when he was younger and still trying to be cool, he was a DJ – playing in places including the Secret Garden party, Ministry of Sound and Egg London. 2 of his productions were broadcast on XFM (now Radio X). He now brings these skills to comedy – with the show Mixtape, a comedy block party. This mixed bill show enjoyed a successful run at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe and will be making a return at London venue in the near future.
Part of the team behind the anarchic Edinburgh Panel Prize winning hit 'Funz and Gamez', Will is the sardonic man behind the mask of Bonzo the dog. He is also possessed of one of the driest wits in the land, at ease firing back and forth with audience interaction or showing off his impressive smarts on a range of subjects.
"Vibrant and risue, Duggan's comedy isn't really afraid of what you think of him - as long as you laugh that is." Edinburgh Festival Magazine
“Absorbs you so completely you don’t see the payoff coming.” Chortle
You’d be forgiven for thinking Edd is in his 30s, he himself admits he looks like a bear. But still in his early 20s, Edd is already making waves on the comedy scene. Amongst everything else Edd has achieved in his short time on the circuit, he can be added to the illustrious list of winners for the UK’s most prestigious new act competition, So You Think You’re Funny.
The list of impressive feats achieved by this man-child continues, appearing in the final of the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year Competition as well as featuring in Montreal’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in 2014.
“Supremely affable…a very promising anecdotalist.” Chortle
“Edd Hedges is a joy to watch.” The Scotsman
AND YOUR RESIDENT HOST:
BEN VAN DER VELDE
Standing a statuesque five foot five inches high (not in heels) and weighing in at eleven stone (on a good day) Ben is the current light-middleweight contender for compering champion of North London.
"Sharp and crafty gagsmith, a life-giving compere." Chortle
"Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue." Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“The perfect comedy club host – he is a master of audience interaction. The audience weren’t just warmed up, but pretty hysterical even before the first act of the night hit the stage.” Huffington Post
