SOPHIE WILLAN

SOUTHBANK AWARDS BREAKTHROUGH NOMINEE 2018

BBC CAROLINE AHERNE BURSARY WINNER 2018

EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARDS BEST SHOW NOMINEE 2017

HERALD ANGEL AWARD WINNER 2017

Sophie Willan makes bold, unapologetic work that is raucously funny and completely original. Her work is political to the core, but it doesn’t feel like it. With a razor sharp and totally authentic comic voice, she exudes confidence and charm.

In 2014 Sophie toured her first solo theatre show to over 70 venues across the UK, including a total sell out run at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

In 2015 her refreshing comic style took her to several competition finals including the Magners New Comedian of the Year, where she was crowned the winner. The following year she took her debut stand up show On Record, based on her experiences of growing up in and out of the care system, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A total sell out run and phenomenal critical acclaim followed, with a smash hit nationwide tour in 2017 and a commission to adapt the show into a BBC Radio 4 series (coming in 2018).

Sophie’s second show Branded was one of the big hits of 2017, achieving another total sell out run at the Fringe, a Herald Angel Award and a nomination for Best Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2017.

"One of the best I’ve ever seen at the Fringe at any time in the last two decades.” The New European ★★★★★

"Who runs the world? On this form, it definitely should be Sophie Willan.” The Herald ★★★★

"Frank and extremely funny.” Evening Standard ★★★★

"It is the precision of her writing and nuanced outlook that helps define the first-rate comedian she is becoming.” The Skinny ★★★★

JOE JACOBS

Joe Jacobs took his debut solo stand-up hour, Orthodox Joe, to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, charting his attempts at rap stardom. With Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year finalist 2015, Jewish Comedian of the Year finalist 2014 and Laughing Horse New Act of the Year finalist 2014 to his name, he has also featured on Channel 4 and BBC 6 Music.

“Dynamic stage presence and an ironic, arch delivery.” Chortle

GRAINNE MAGUIRE

Gráinne Maguire is a stand up comedian, comedy writer and columnist. Her excitable charm and original material means she is a popular MC and gigs regularly around the UK and Ireland.  She has also appeared as a guest on R4s “Now Show” “An Idiots Guide” “Front Row” and “Women’s Hour” and on R5s “7 Day Sunday” and most importantly on “Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience” on Comedy Central.

As a politics nerd and pop culture obsessive Gráinne knows as much about the vagaries of Collation government as she does about Cheryl Cole’s relationship choices. Too much. She writes for a wide range of websites and newspapers including “Total Politics” “The Evening Standard” and “The Independent”. She is an excellent topical joke writer and has written for “8 Out of 10 Cats”, “News Quiz”, “The Show What I Wrote” and “The Now Show”.

“An engaging and natural performer with deep reserves of excitable energy. Can employ understatement with the dry mastery of a Father Ted script.” Chortle

“Highly promising, delightfully quirky – has a big future ahead of her.” Time Out

JAMES MEEHAN

Over the past few years James has excelled himself as a member of Edinburgh Award winning madcap team Funz and Gamez and blood-soaked, award-nominated sketchmasters Gein's Family Giftshop.  His solo stand-up is just as funny, daft and compelling, with an extra raw-hearted personal touch that makes him stand out from the crowd.

"Passionate, heartfelt, and very funny." British Comedy Guide

“More than great comedy, it is a call to stand up for others and ourselves.” Ed Fest Mag

STEPH BROWNE

AND YOUR RESIDENT HOST:

BEN VAN DER VELDE

Standing a statuesque five foot five inches high (not in heels) and weighing in at eleven stone (on a good day) Ben is the current light-middleweight contender for compering champion of North London.

"Sharp and crafty gagsmith, a life-giving compere." Chortle

"Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue." Edinburgh Festivals Magazine

“The perfect comedy club host – he is a master of audience interaction. The audience weren’t just warmed up, but pretty hysterical even before the first act of the night hit the stage.”  Huffington Post
