ALASDAIR BECKETT-KING
Alasdair is a legendary comedian, in that there is little historical evidence that he exists. But he does exist. And he is freshly returned from a victorious Edinburgh Fringe where he received five-star reviews and the acclaim of king of British alternative comedy, Stewart Lee.
He has appeared on Mock the Week, performed stand-up across the UK, at Glastonbury, Citadel Fest and the Udderbelly. He knows quite a lot about 19th century magicians. Tourists often ask to have their photo taken with him, presumably impressed by this. Since the world went to pot with the plague he has become a viral phenomenon with his incredible self-produced sketch videos, each of them worthy of a TV commission on its own. He's skewered everything from Hercule Poirot to Swedish noir to point and click adventure games. Al is a comic who's star is on the rise, probably due to his talent, but also thanks to esoteric pagan forces which he has harnessed.
"Clockwork comedy perfection." Stewart Lee
"A singular and truly distinct act, Alasdair Beckett-King creates his own multi-faceted world." The Scotsman
"Extraordinary show: erudite, daft, punning, rammed with gags, rich in characters...you couldn’t possibly ask for more." Chortle
“A bold and fresh comedy voice.” The Stage
CHLOE PETTS
Chloe Petts’ “inexhaustibly funny mind” (Diva Magazine) and “compelling presence” (Chortle) has established her as one of the most exciting new acts on the circuit.
Chloe is an alumna of the prestigious Pleasance Comedy Reserve, has been shortlisted for the BBC Comedy Award, was a finalist in the most recent Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year Awards and comes to us fresh from supporting Ed Gamble on his sell-out national tour.
She is a co-founder of The Lol Word, a queer comedy collective that hosts sell-out monthly London nights, boasting the finest female and non-binary queer acts on the circuit. Their most recent Edinburgh run was a sell-out. It won't be long before Chloe's solo shows follow suit.
TADIWA MAHLUNGE
Tadiwa Mahlunge is one of comedy's most exciting new acts, already scoring a multitude of awards including winning London and Manchester King Gong in 2018 and 2020, Semifinalist of Amused Moose New Comedian of the Year in 2019 and 2020, winning The Blackout at Up The Creek 2020 and most recently winning Beat The Frog at The Frog and Bucket in February. Not bad, after being told that he wasn't allowed to join the Comedy Society at Lancaster University because he 'did not represent the values of the society'.
Tadiwa was born in Zimbabwe before growing up in Cardiff. After spending his whole life in two colonies, it's a bummer for him to now call London home. When his plans to have a career as a professional physicist were dashed, after he was told he would never make the grades for Oxbridge, his obvious second choice was standup.
Other than standup, Tadiwa loves writing software, football, MMA and World of Warcraft. The thinking man's incel.
AND YOUR RESIDENT HOST:
BEN VAN DER VELDE
One of the quickest wits around and a much-loved compere, he always brings a jam-packed back of nonsense, silliness and wisecracks to every gig he hosts.
"Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue." Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“The perfect comedy club host – he is a master of audience interaction. The audience weren’t just warmed up, but pretty hysterical even before the first act of the night hit the stage.” Huffington Post
